Hyperspermia Symptoms, Complications, Diagnosis & Treatment

Have you ever heard about the term “Hyperspermia”? If not, the post would let you know in depth about the term.

If you are suffering from hyperspermia, you need to go through this post to know about its symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and much more.

What is Hyperspermia?

Hyperspermia is a health condition where a man produces an unusually large quantity of semen which is a fluid that a man ejaculates after reaching at an orgasm. This fluid not only contains semen but also a fluid from prostate gland.

The above condition is different as compared to hypospermia where a man is known to produce lesser semen than usual.

Although, hyperspermia is related to the production of unusually large quantity of semen, the condition is quite rare. As per a study conducted in India, less than 4% men had a high sperm count in their semen.

In most cases, hyperspermia doesn’t affect a man’s health in any way. However, it could impact his fertility.

What are the Symptoms of Hyperspermia?

The main symptom which is quite evident is producing unusually larger amount of sperm after reaching an orgasm.

As per a study conducted in this regard, men produced semen volume up to 6.3 milliliters per ejaculation. Some other researchers have measured it in the range of 6.0 to 6.5 milliliters (0.2 to 0.22 ounces) or higher.

Men having hyperspermia are most likely to have trouble in making their partner pregnant. And even if they are able to make them pregnant, the chances are that they might face miscarriage.

Some men with hyperspermia are found to have higher sex drive than others without this condition.

How Hyperspermia Affects Fertility?

Although, it’s known that hyperspermia affects a man’s fertility in the negative way, but it doesn’t always. There are some men who in spite of having a high semen volume have a less sperm count than usual. And this makes their fluid more dilute.

It all depends on sperm count. For example, if a man has a low sperm count, then the chances will be like he won’t be able to fertilize his partner’s eggs. In some cases, the person can still fertilize his partner’s eggs, but the process can be longer than usual.

Even if you are suffering from hyperspermia and your sperm count is normal in the fluid you ejaculate, it won’t affect your fertility.

Are There Any Complications?

Well, there are no major complications noted. But in some cases, your partner may face miscarriages.

What Causes This Condition?

There are no exact causes known to cause hyperspermia. But as per some researches, the above condition is specifically related to an infection in the prostate gland that becomes the cause of inflammation.

When to See A Doctor?

There should be a need for you to see a doctor only if you are worried to make your partner pregnant.

In such cases, you should consult your doctor and discuss about the issue of hyperspermia you are suffering from.

Once you approach your doctor, he will physically examine you. After that he will recommend some tests to gauge your sperm count and some other fertility measures. Some of these tests are:

Semen analysis: You will be asked to collect your semen sample for testing purpose. In order to do that, you need to masturbate. You may also ejaculate into a cup at the time of having sex with your partner. The above sample you collected will go to a lab for testing.

Hormone tests: A blood test is also recommended if you are producing enough testosterone and other male hormones.

Imaging: You may additionally have to go through ultrasound of your testicles or other parts of your reproductive system. It’s mainly done to look for probable reasons or problems that are contributing your infertility.

Is There A Treatment for Hyperspermia?

The above condition is not going to affect your health in any way. But you need to consider for treatment options only if you are unable to make your partner pregnant.

In some cases, doctors use a technique sperm retrieval to pull sperms from your reproductive tract.

Now, once your sperms are collected, they can be directly injected to your partner’s eggs at the time of undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF). After the egg is fertilized, it becomes an embryo which is finally implanted in the uterus of your partner.

What You Can Expect?

Hyperspermia is a rare condition that never affects a man’s health condition in any way.

It only affects the fertility levels where the person is unable to make his partner pregnant.

In such case, techniques like IVF or ICSI can drastically improve the chances of reaching pregnancy.
