Monkeypox In Fresno County: As per the latest update from the Fresno County Department of Public Health, the first monkeypox in the county has been confirmed.
The health officials asserted that although, the risk to contacting the disease is quite low, residents are advised to assess their own risk by checking the ways it can be spread.
Dr. Rais Vohra, who’s the top health officer from the county had earlier predicted on July 1 that it was but a matter of time before a confirmed monkeypox case was reported from the county.
Fresh Case of Monkeypox In Fresno County Spotted
Monkeypox is a rare disease which is caused due to an infection with a virus known as monkeypox virus. It’s basically related to a smallpox virus which is mainly characterized by some common symptoms like enlargement of lymph nodes, flu-like symptoms, and skin rash.
Although, mortality rates are known to be less, severe illness along with death is possible, according to the report submitted by the health department.
The most common or prominent symptom of monkeypox is skin rash that are initially benign for 1-3 days accompanied by some other symptoms like body ache, fever and low energy.
Monkeypox is a highly contagious disease which can spread through direct skin-to-skin contact with an infected person. It’s also related to sexual activities on the genitals, face or anus.
The skin rash can resemble pimples that can be painful at times. Please be aware that Monkeypox doesn’t spread through normal conversation, walking, or touching some items like a doorknob.
The health officials further asserted that a person needs to speak to his/her partner before they engage in unprotected sexual activity. They should also discuss how to minimize risk, and practice good hand hygiene.
Anyone who comes in contact with an infected person need to seek further testing and evaluation at any nearby health center.
