What Are BA.5, BA.4 Variant Symptoms?

Due to Americans are seen to ramp up their summer travels without wearing masks, at least two COVID-19 variants are known to have caused a surge in the number of cases.

For example, BA5 is known to account for 65% of cases and BA4 amounts to 16% cases.

Both these sub variants continue to evade antibodies and vaccine protections as they have come out to be the most contagious form of the virus.

Dr. Payal Kohli, who’s a medical expert at TEGNA said it knows how to trick our immune system.

She further said, “Since the sub variants derived from the original omicron variant, symptoms fall under the same umbrella. However, symptoms still vary depending on vaccination status, age, prior infection, medication and other factors.” She said.

It was on Tuesday when the Biden administration urged Americans to get their booster shots to protect themselves from the subvariants.

In order to combat the virus, a new protein-based vaccine has been approved by the FDA along with a COVID-19 pill. With that, Americans will now have somewhat greater resources to protect themselves from the growing surge.

In the meanwhile, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has listed the most common symptoms for COVID-19:

  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Sore throat
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Headache
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Fatigue
  • Shortness of breath
  • Cough
  • Fever or chills

This is what Dr Kohli further said, “Even though the vaccines and the boosters that we have out there right now are really designed for the original Wuhan strain, and not so much for the sub variants, we are seeing that there’s a high degree of efficacy at for the vaccines that keeping you out of the hospital,” she said.
