Due to the number of monkeypox cases continuously spreading in the US, the country has now declared monkeypox as the public health emergency.
For the last so many months, the country has been witnessing a steep rise in the monkeypox cases. Even though, vaccines are available to contain the monkeypox virus, the number of cases continue to rise further.
Xavier Becerra, secretory at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services stated that he will declare the ongoing spread of monkeypox virus in the United States a Public Health Emergency (PHE).
The above action is expected to bring momentum to the already going efforts being made by the Biden administration.
In order to deal with the above crisis, government has appointed a number of health officials in this regard who will closely monitor the situation and will assess any sort of emergency due to monkeypox.
This is what the Biden administration has to say, “Ending the monkeypox outbreak is a critical priority for the Biden-Harris Administration. We are taking our response to the next level by declaring a public health emergency,” said Secretary Becerra. “With today’s declaration we can further strengthen and accelerate our response further.”
If you look at the data, HHS has shipped over 6 lakh doses of JYNNEOS vaccine which is an increase of 2.5 lakh as compared to the last week.
