New Study Shows Most People With Long Covid Started With A Mild Case

Long Covid Cases: Ever since COVID-19 devastated the global population, nobody believed it would take a long term effect afterwards. But now, studies confirm that people having mild COVID have shown to have caused long-lasting effects.

The above finding has been published in the American Medical Association.

You might be wondering what Long COVID stands for. Well, long covid has recently come into the picture after various studies have shown its involvement in developing the disease.

 

What Is Long Covid?

Long COVID is basically the development of symptoms even after a span of 3 months.

It may have happened after a person got an initial infection from SARS-CoV-2 virus which is the main contributor of COVID-19. These symptoms were found to have lasted for a period of 2 months with no other explanation.

As per covid news, the majority of people who had long covid experienced only mild illness. But some people experienced other symptoms like shortness of breath, fatigue, along with some other cognitive issues like brain fog.

There were cases where a combination of above symptoms were shown in some group of people. All these symptoms started showing severe impact on a person’s health. Some long term affects include traumatic brain injury.

The study further analyzed more people and found that women have twice the risk of men and four times the risk of children for developing long COVID.

The above study basically analyzed up to 1 million people from an array of 22 countries. All the participants included in the study had COVID-19.

Soon, the researchers managed to find the number of people with COVID-19 who later developed clusters of new long COVID symptoms.

The above study clearly demonstrated how these symptoms developed the risk of developing the disease among people based on their age and sex.

The study further analyzed that people who were admitted in hospitals for COVID-19 problems had a greater risk of developing long COVID.

And due to this, they had all the chances of developing the longer-lasting symptoms. It’s compared to those who were never hospitalized even for once.

Since many COVID-19 cases never required any sort of hospitalization even when the wave proved lethal, so many more cases of long covid were found to have arisen from these milder cases.

The study concluded that 1 in 7 people were continue experiencing such symptoms even after a year. It’s unknown to the researchers how many of the above cases became chronic.

How to Deal With Long Covid Cases

Researchers, after analyzing ample of cases have found that long covid happens to be a dynamic and complex condition. It’s mainly because of some symptoms coming and disappearing in the due course of time.

In this study conducted by researchers at the University of Washington, they focused more on some of the most common symptoms like headaches, gastrointestinal issues, insomnia, loss of taste and smell, among others.

However, there are cases where some additional symptoms were found together with all the main symptoms.
