Poor eyesight can cause many problems like to make you feel harder to read many others.

But as per a new study done in this regard, poor eyesight can also lead to other conditions. It can misdiagnosis of mild mental decline in older people.

This is likely to happen if the person’s thinking abilities are properly analyzed by using vision-dependent tests.

The researchers while conducting the above tests noted down that 1 in 50 older people who have undiagnosed poor eyesight (cataract) or any other age related vision problem like age-related macular degeneration (AMD) are likely to skew visual assessments.

As you know, AMD is not responsible for complete loss of vision but still can severely impact one’s ability to read, cook, drive and at sometimes recognize faces. And there are no reports of any sort of mental function (cognition).

If you look at the data, then you will be shocked to know that poor eyesight (Visual impairments) generally affect as many as 200 million senior citizens worldwide.

This is what Anne Macnamara, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of South Australia has to say, “A mistaken score in cognitive tests could have devastating ramifications, leading to unnecessary changes to a person’s living, working, financial or social circumstances,” she said.

For example, if there is a mistaken score that contributes to a diagnosis of cognitive impairment, it may trigger some related psychological issues like anxiety and depression.
