The Risk of Dementia Not Linked to Mediterranean Diet, Study Says

As per a new study conducted on the risk of dementia on people, it has come out saying the risk of dementia is not linked to Mediterranean diet.

It’s because several studies conducted earlier suggested that the problem of dementia can be reduced by taking a healthy diet.

The above study has been published in the journal Neurology, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

Before letting you know further, let’s take a look what a Mediterranean diet actually involves.

A Mediterranean diet includes healthy food items like fish, fruits, legumes, vegetables along with healthy fats like olive oil. It also includes having a low intake of dairy products like saturated fatty acids nad dairy products.

In their original study, the team of researchers analyzed almost 28,000 people from Sweden. All the participants had attained an average age of 55 years and were free from dementia.

During the study, they were filled out a seven-day food diary questionnaire. After the study ended, it was found that 6.9% of them had dementia including vascular dementia nd Alzheimer’s disease.

The team of researchers also examined the changes in their diets along with the conventional dietary recommendations and the Mediterranean diet.
