Transgender Teenagers at Suicidal Risk: Have you ever noticed why the incidences of suicidal behavior has increased many folds among transgenders in the recent past? Well, this is what the recent study published in CMAJ (Canadian Medical Association Journal) has revealed.
The incidences of suicidal attempts are not only seen in transgenders but also among sexual minority youth including those who are called lesbian, gay, bisexual, or queer. These attract to the same or multiple genders.
Please know that suicide happens to be the 2nd leading cause of death among adolescents and young adults aged 15–24 years in Canada.
As per Dr. Ian Colman, who’s a research scholar and professor at the University of Ottawa and the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, Oslo, Norway stated that transmission from adolescence to adulthood is generally full of stress in most young lads.
The above has been specifically seen in gender and sexual minority teens. The rising incidences of suicide and suicidal tendencies clearly indicate that they need the most viable support from the society.
Data Clearly Suggests Transgender Teenagers at Suicidal Risk
Out of the number of respondents taken to conclude a research to find reasons of the above, the majority (78%) were heterosexual.
The data further shocked with more figures including 14.7% respondents who attracted to multiple genders. Over 4% were unsure about their likes or attraction.
The research concluded with the fact that almost 14% teens experienced suicidal tendencies and almost 6.5% had attempted suicide previously.
