Two COVID-19 Vaccines Approved for Children Under 5 Years

COVID-19 Vaccines for Children: As per the latest COVID news, FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has approved the emergency use of Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccine for children below 5 years of age.

The FDA has further amended the Moderna Covid vaccine for its use in people who are between 6 months and 17 years of age.

It’s quite evident to know many parents and healthcare takers were expecting such a vaccine for children. And now, after its approval, they can go ahead to administer Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna Covid-19 vaccines.

The vaccine has also been authorized for its safe use in people who attained 18 years of age and older.

For the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, it can be given to individuals attaining 6 months to 4 years of age.

As per a statement released in this regard, the agency has stated that the known and potential benefits of the above vaccines simply outweigh all the associated risks in the pediatric populations.

As COVID-19 vaccine is already available for older age group people. there was nothing for children under 5 years of age. Now, after the authorization of the above vaccines, parents can easily safeguard their children against Covid infection.

 

How to Administer Covid-19 Vaccines for Children?

Please note that the Moderna vaccine is basically meant to be given as a primary series of two doses. They can be given one month apart, to those who are between 6 to 17 years of age.

On the other hand the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine will be administered as a proimary series of 3 doses for 8 weeks after the 2nd dose in those who are 6 months to 4 years of age.

This is what Peter Marks, Director of the FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research has to say, “As with all vaccines for any population, when authorizing Covid-19 vaccines intended for pediatric age groups, the FDA ensures that our evaluation and analysis of the data is rigorous and thorough,” he said.
