Do you know air pollution has to do anything with the health of people? As per a new study, it was found that women are becoming fatter due to the long term air pollution effects.

In other words, air pollution is known to have been responsible for women’s weight, body fat, waist circumference, and body mass index.

The study came to light after researchers from the University of Michigan in the US came to know that air pollution has a long role to play with not only higher body fat but also higher proportion fat and lower lean mass within midlife women.

As per the study published in the journal Diabetes Care, most women has gained the average body fat up to 4.5% (2.5 pounds).

This is what Xin Wang, epidemiology research investigator at the university’s School of Public Health has to say, “Women in their late 40s and early 50s exposed long-term to air pollution” specifically, higher levels of fine particles, nitrogen dioxide and ozone a” saw increases in their body size and composition measures,” she said.

The above study was conducted using a sample size of 1,654 Japanese, Chinese, Black, and white women.

All the women who became participants in the above study were around 50 years of age which increased from 2000 to 2008.

And so, researchers explored the interaction between physical activity on body composition and air pollution.

“Since the study focused on midlife women, the findings can’t be generalized to men or women in other age ranges,” Wang said.

Please note that obesity has been a major global health related cause for years. It’s mainly because most people tend to eat unhealthy food and fail to exercise regularly.
