CDC Says Nearly Half of Americans Need to Wear Masks Indoors

It was earlier in the month of March when the CDC had announced that every American could virtually stop wearing masks indoors.

As per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention CDC), there is a need for at least 45% Americans to wear masks in public, indoors or at least consider wearing them mainly due to the risk of having severe COVID-19.

The authority confirmed on the basis of reports generated on Thursday that almost 24% of countries making up over 45% of the population of the US are deemed either a medium or high level of COVID-19 community level.

Most of these counties are located in the regions like Northeast which recently surged due to the new omicron subvariant.

The report says that people in countries who are supposed to carry a high coronavirus community level only need to wear masks indoors.

And those who continues to be at risk of developing severe COVID-19 need to consult their doctor before they choose to drop their masks in a medium level community.

It has been shown to be a substantial difference right from mid March when CDC reported that every American could virtually stop wearing masks indoors.

In spite of that coronavirus cases along with hospitalizations continued to increase nationally for several weeks.

This is what one of the officials from CDC has to say, “While cases remain much lower than during the omicron surge this past winter, the current seven-day daily average of cases is now at about 94,000 cases per day, which is an increase nationally about 26 percent over the previous week and a threefold increase over the last month,” CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said at a press briefing this week. “Similarly, hospital admissions are also increasing, but remain much lower than they were during the Omicron surge. The seven-day average of hospital admissions now is about 3,000 per day, and that’s an increase of about 19 percent over the previous week.” he said.
