The researchers found that those with low Vitamin D levels were at a significantly higher risk of cognitive impairment and dementia than those with normal levels.

Vitamin D Supplementation and Dementia Prevention

However, other studies have found no significant benefits of Vitamin D supplements for preventing dementia.

For example, a large clinical trial published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2018 followed more than 25,000 adults over the age of 50 for up to 5 years. The researchers found that taking Vitamin D supplements did not reduce the incidence of dementia or cognitive decline.
