Parkinson’s disease is a serious type of condition that generally becomes prominent in old age. As per a recent research conducted in mice, it was shown that regular treadmill exercise was effective.
In the research, the scientists revealed that regular treadmill exercise tends to stop the spread of the α-synuclein protein along with anatomical, cellular and biochemical changes.
In the experiment conducted on mice, scientists made them run on a treadmill in 30-minute intervals for six days a week, over the course of two months.
The findings of the above experiment looked precious. The team was quick to note that treadmill exercise is quite an easy task to undergo. But for some patients, running on a treadmill is not an easy task.
The study further revealed that constant running on a treadmill produces fenofibrate activated PPARα within the brain.
The team continued to study Parkinson’s Disease symptoms mainly to provide options to those suffering from the disease. It’s because the current treatment of Parkinson’s Disease is associated with a number of side effects.
This is what the key researcher has to say, “Understanding how the treadmill helps the brain is important to developing treadmill-associated drugs that can inhibit α-synuclein pathology, protect the brain, and stop the progression of Lewy body diseases.” he said.
Fenofibrate Mimicking the Effects of a Treadmill
After conducting series of experiments, research team learned that fenofibrate mimicked the effects of a treadmill workout in the brain. The above drug is specifically used to lower down high cholesterol and triglyceride level in patients.
“If taking fenofibrate can replicate the same effects of running on a treadmill then it would be a notable advance in the treatment of these devastating neurological disorders,” the researcher said.
The research team now hopes that the new findings may help them improve Parkinson’s symptoms.
