Man With Fatal Tick-Borne Viral Disease Hospitalized In Spain

Do you know a tick borne viral disease case has been detected in Spain? It’s also known as a deadly eye bleeding virus known to kill at least one third of infected patients.

One person in Spain has been found to be infected with tick borne viral disease and is currently hospitalized.

The man is the resident of Leon city of Spain who was hospitalized after diagnosing with Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF) after he was bitten by a tick.

The symptoms of CCHF mainly include fever and bleeding from the eyes.

It was only last week when the unnamed patient was rushed to hospital for the treatment.

The latest from the Spanish authorities is that he is currently in a stable condition, despite the clinical severity that this pathology implies.

According to WHO, the mortality rate of CCHF is up to 30%.

Some known symptoms include mood swings, dizziness, confusion, aches, fever, bleeding of the eyes and on the skin.

In most cases, it has been observed that sign of infection occur suddenly and those who loss their lives within 2 weeks of diagnosis.

It was first came to light Crimea in 1944 and is known to be endemic in some parts of the world including Asia, Africa, the Middle East and the Balkans.

So far, cases are quite rare in Northern Europe and only 3 cases have been found in Spain since 2011.

A senior UK Health Security Agency’s chief said, “the virus does not spread easily between people and the overall risk to the public is very low.” he said.

Please note that the carrier of this virus is none other than ticks and livestock. And it gets passed to humans through bites.

The virus can be easily transmitted to humans through body fluids and infected blood.
