Omicron Variant Cases in India have surged 2.51 lakh (2,51,209). These happen to be the new cases of COVID-19.
The death toll has been reported to be around 627 so far and the number of active cases are reported to have declined up to 21 lakh. Taking in view of the above data, the daily positivity rate in India falls at 15.88 per cent.
Omicron Variant Cases in India: High Level Meeting of Union Health Minister to Follow
In view of the cases pilling up in the country, union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya is about to chair a high level meeting this afternoon. He will also review the COVID protocol in the country.
Others who will also attend the meeting include the health ministers of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Telangana, Lakshadweep, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
As per the latest COVID-19 report, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar tested positive for COVID-19. He shared the information via his official Twitter handle.

Meanwhile, National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) director Sujeet Singh has stated that BA.2 sub-variant of Omicron has become far more prevalent in the country for now.
While addressing to the media in this regard, he said that up to 1,292 cases of Omicron variant were found on genome sequencing were found in the month of December. However, in the month of January, these cases rose to 9,672.
The government has announced and advised people to continue to take all the necessary precautions to fight with the omicron variant of coronavirus. The fight with Covid-19 is looking to go long, especially in presence of the total number of cases.
