Severe Hepatitis Cases: As per the data provided by W.H.O. (World Health Organization), severe hepatitis cases have been spotted among 650 children of 33 countries.
The numbers are alarming and the governments of the concerned countries need to take immediate action before it is too late.
All these cases were reported between a period from April 5 to May 25, 2022. Taking a view of the diseases spread, it has been analyzed that disease currently poses a moderate global risk.
The organization further stated that 99 more cases are pending to be assessed for the confirmation of the disease.
The point of concern is that out of 650 severe hepatitis cases, almost 58% cases are from WHO’s European region. Another 34% cases contribute to other regions like the United Kingdom (UK) and Northern Ireland.
The WHO report further added that there are 200 more pending cases that are coming from the United States (US) alone.

This is what W.H.O. said, “The aetiology of this severe acute hepatitis remains unknown and under investigation,” it said.
After assessing all the cases, the organization stated that these are somewhat more clinically severe and are likely to result in “acute liver failure” as compared to some previous reports assessed in the recent past.
Hepatitis mainly causes liver inflammation which results due to the infection from a virus called adenovirus. All severe hepatitis cases that have been analyzed so far in children, the presence of adenovirus has been detected.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has already released a set of its guidelines for testing the presence of adenovirus among children in the US. It’s taken as a preventive measure to check if any children has got an infection with this virus that causes hepatitis.
Hepatitis when happens in severe form can damage liver. As per the data analyzed by WHO, almost 6% of total severe hepatitis cases require liver transplants.
