Covid Third Wave Spared the Hinterland: Health Director

The Covid third wave has spared the hinterland unlike it was witnessed during the second wave when the spread was recorded at alarming levels making the situation pathetic.

As per public Health director Dr. G Srinivasa, the Covid third wave looks like to have spared the hinterland.

Earlier, in the 2nd wave, we all witnessed a huge positivity rate along with the highly infectious nature of the corona variant that actually made the wave peaking and dropping rapidly.

This is what Dr. G Srinivasa stated, “Around 90% of cases were in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) region. The high infectivity of the Omicron variant (which was predominantly recorded in cases) and congestion of urban areas led to rapid spread. Except for a few districts, where some cases were reported, during this wave, rural areas have remained untouched unlike the previous two waves. In the second wave, the spread in rural areas was massive and it made things worse,” he said.

There are some other areas that witnessed a good number of cases including Warangal, Siddipet, Karimnagar, Nagarkurnool, Nalgonda, Bhadadri-Kothagudem and some other adjoining areas. Since the virus remained under control in most of the above mentioned districts, it became easier for health experts to control the spread.

Even now, the report says that there are as many as 10 districts that were lagging behind in the vaccination campaign that was earlier started with a mission to accomplish within a speculated time frame. But it could not be done on time which is a matter of concern.

As of now, it’s reported that GHMC vaccination coverage was near completion, the cases were reported to have gone from mild to moderate.
