What Are Cankles & the Ways to Get Rid of Them


Have you ever heard about the term Cankles? As you see, ‘Cankles’ is slang which blends ‘ankles’ and ‘calf’ together. Most people often use the above term to explain their legs where the calf doesn’t seem to taper down with their ankles.

In general means, cankles are not a health concern as it’s a simple condition that mainly causes swelling. In technical terms, cankles is neither a known medical condition nor a medical term.


What Are Cankles?

It simply means as if a woman’s swollen or fat ankle where the flesh seems to merge unattractively with calf.


What Causes Cankles?


Cankles can arise because of so many reasons:

The main reason is weight gain mainly due to diet or pregnancy. Due to this, the above condition may develop as increased size of fat cells start developing

There can also be some genetic reasons as well influencing the distribution of fat within the body

Changes in your medication can also directly affect the fluid retention of your body. And this can induce swelling between your ankles and calves


How to Get Rid of Cankles?

As we mentioned above, cankles is not a medical condition. But they can become a cause of stress and depends on certain other conditions.

For example, if you are overweight and try to lose some extra pounds, it can help.

Another way to get rid of cankles is to undergo ankle liposuction but it would become quite drastic and won’t be so easy to undergo.

As you see, there are not enough measures to get rid of ankles. Although, some treatments are available, they are not much appealing.

Still, there are some of the below given remedies or exercises that can prevent fat from accumulating in your ankles:

  • Lunges
  • Plie Squats
  • Calf Raises
  • Jumping Rope

In spite of doing above exercises, there are people who are unable to get rid of cankles due to one reason or the other.


What is Cankle Liposuction?

It’s basically is the extraction of excess fat from the fatty tissue to a specific area where your calf meets the ankle. But it results in an abrupt look. In such cases, you can either choose to:

  • Accept them as it is now
  • Try to wear pants if you are getting conscious about your ankles and legs
  • Play up some other parts of your body
